My Webpage Project // SBv3
« on: December 06, 2008, 05:23:48 AM »

I've been working on the new Spoony Bard web page for at least two weeks or so semi-obsessively, staying up until 5 AM every few nights.  I'm not exactly a talented web designer or anything, but I've been learning lots of new tricks with CSS and even PHP (of which I knew none of prior to starting this) to make this page have all the features that I want the band web page to have AND be easy to update for any one of us.

The first iteration of the web page was created in an old version of Frontpage, probably in 2004, and is long lost on a backup CD or something.  However, you can view the revised version of that page here:

The second iteration is the current rendition of the site now, and was made after I took an intro to HTML / CSS class in college, and is an extended version of my final project for that class.  Here is the precursor to the current web page, my final project for that class:

It has a few nifty features, like a merchandise order form that doesn't really work and is the origin of that slideshow you see on the main page.  It also was pretty heavy on iFrames.

The third iteration is something that I'm not ready to disclose entirely because I'm not 100% positive on some formatting decisions / color & font choices / template sizes, but I'm definitely willing to share a screenshot right now:

I'm not entirely sure if everyone is going to like it if the forum is integrated with the web page, but that's why there'll be an option to change it.  I'd love to hear ideas for what should be on this page -- Just remember, nothing in that screenshot is final and any suggestions can be posted here as well as in Webpage Updates --> Feature Requests thread.

Actually I like that you could go right into the forums, from the main site, allowing users the option to click around the main site.
A music player is an awesome idea.
I have no idea what to suggest just from that screenshot.  It pretty much looks good.  The top banner MIGHT stand to be a bit smaller.  And not much smaller...
but I realise that group picture of the Bards needs to be a certain size in order to recognise anyone ^^;

I've actually been putting off analyzing the site as it is, since you first posted the Feature Requests thread.
I think right now I will attempt to see what I think could be improved or added, and I'll post in that thread.

edit:
hahaha

Here is an amusing picture of me testing out some color scheme ideas:
