I remember him playing The Ballad of Jayne, because I liked how the song sounded, so I looked into it.  I tried to start watching Firefly because of it, but the series is just not for me.  Now the song doesn't seem as cool, because Jayne was an icky character ^^;

I think that's part of why the song is so damn funny. It glorifies someone who is a bit "icky", and Jayne is really embarrassed about the whole thing, I think, because it damages his reputation as an ass.

I read that Jayne was basically forced to take part in the events spoken of in the song, otherwise he'd die or get in trouble or something.
But the people on his home planet regard him as a hero, since they are ignorant of how he was forced.

It would be more entertaining if Jayne had done it out of the kindness of his heart, Robin Hood style.
