Favorite song to perform?
« on: April 21, 2009, 10:09:59 PM »

Been wondering about this for quite some time actually.

This is for each of you to answer or as a group answer whichever works. What's your favorite song to perform? If you can pick just one.

I'm sure everyone has their favorites.  I don't think I could narrow mine down to just one, but the first one that came to mind is "Canta Per Me".  Our arrangement always reminds me of the space opera from "Fifth Element" which I always enjoyed.

I don't think I could pick just one either. I doubt any of us could. To name a couple though, Sewer Surfin' is understandably close to my heart, and I always have a lot of fun rocking out when we play Hurricane. I'm sure I'll think of plenty more that I'll have to post though.

I've had a few favorites...Here are some of them as well as why.

For slower songs, I absolutely love playing Moon on the Water.  I came up with the my part on a bus ride on the way home from visiting my girlfriend back in 2008, just listening to the music over and over again since we had started work on the album.  The E B E' B Bb lick that you hear in the song always gives me chills.  Also, the chorus uses a favorite overused chord progression of mine that hides itself well enough that I didn't realize it for an entire year.

I also enjoy playing Sewer Surfin' a lot because for close to half a year, I didn't play anything on it because I couldn't comprehend what part I would possibly play.  It's such a guitar heavy song that I had a hard time imagining what sort of place an acoustic piano would have in the music, and it just fell into place one day.

I also really enjoy performing Canta Per Me... not only is it one of the first arrangements we put together as a group but it's a song that has taken on many evolutions the more we've played it. The lyrics are also gorgeous...that and Yuki Kajiura's melodic lines are what made me want to learn the song.

Another one I've come to like in a very short time is Inner Universe. (Learning how to sing in other languages is one of my favorite things to do!) It's one of the most challenging songs I've done... but the challenging ones always make me grow as a vocalist and a musician.
